Section 3A-2. Requirement for single occupancy rooms as bedrooms

The employer must ensure that each employee has their own separate bedroom. Bedrooms must have windows that can be opened and that can be used as an escape route.
The requirement for single occupancy rooms as bedrooms does not apply:
  1. a.
for seasonal work for up to 12 weeks during the calendar year,
  2. b.
for short-term work outside of the ordinary workplace when it is difficult to provide single-occupancy rooms for employee use.
A maximum of four employees can share a bedroom in such instances. In any event, there must be a minimum of 4 square metres of floor space per person when multiple people are sleeping in the same room.
Seasonal work refers to work that is of such a nature that it is only performed for a limited part of the year. Maintenance and restoration work etc. is not considered seasonal work.
Bedrooms must be located in such a manner that employees are disrupted as little as possible and must not be access points for other rooms.
An employers’ association and trade union with right of nomination pursuant to Section 39 of the Labour Disputes Act may agree on exceptions from the requirement of single-occupancy bedrooms stipulated in the first paragraph, first sentence, in order for two employees to share a bedroom.
